Christmas has come and gone. We had a great holiday with the grandparents. Gavin racked up on some great toys and books! He's wearing his favorite pair of Little Einstein PJs right now!

Mom and Dad have gotten into collecting the Cars models. We're on a mission to find some of the harder ones...like Bob Cutlass or one of the tractors.

I have this week off and I'm really having fun with Gavin. We had lunch with Mercedes and Amy Logan (and her son) yesterday. Today, we've got a bunch of errands to run and then we're having lunch with my old friend, Erika.

I think tomorrow night we're going to have a few friends over for dinner and then have a quiet New Year's Eve celebration.

We're still having trouble finding a new car for Jeff. It's not that there's nothing out there, hello auto dealers are practically giving them away, it's that our hearts aren't in it. Jeff misses his old car, understandably, it's what he knew. So, we're going back and forth on whether we should buy used or new. There are so many good deals out there on a new car, this might be the only time in my life that I would be OK buying on the lot!

On another, happier note- can you belive the that the Falcons are going to the playoffs!?!?!? How great is that!?!? I'm so happy for them! After last year's disasterous year, they totally deserved this season!

Sweet Smile

Cute little man at his Christmas concert last week.
Methinks we'll be revisiting how many pumpkin bread loaves are going out this year. Jeff took the first load to the post today and the handful of boxes he took rang in at $50. Considering we have twice as many more to send, I think we'll be going through the list tonight. Part of the problem is that the loaves are just so heavy! I probably should have just made boocoodles of kalachky cookies. "What's a kalachky cookie?" you ask? It's a Czech cookie that's so yummy and good and so easy to make! I actually plan to make some this weekend to bring into work next week.

I can't believe that Xmas is next week! Jeff and I have barely done any shopping. I must say, since becoming a mommy, the days of shopping in September are long gone! Now, I'm lucky to have everything together BEFORE Christmas!

I'm still in my baking frenzy with pumpkin bread. Jeff and I figure we need about 30 loaves to take care of everyone. I've got 12 done. The good thing is that I bought a couple extra pans so I can cook 4 at a time. Now, just gotta get that flour and sugar...oh, and pumpkin!

We received a card from Ms. Miller...remember her, she was the lady I thought was dead and really had just fallen down? Anyway, she's happy down in south Georgia near her family. It's funny, I may have seen her once a year for the past five years, but now that she's gone, I miss knowing that she's at home. Funny how that happens...

I'm really at a loss for words today. Not much to say, not much to report. Just gearing up for Xmas and the family coming over. I can't believe it's in two weeks! Where has the year gone? You know, it really is weird how time just seems to speed up the older we get. Even though I still feel like I'm in my 20s (well, except for that random back spasm, or crick in my knees), I remember it taking forever to get to Christmas. Now, WHAM, it's here.

As my son would say, "what happened!?"

Monday, December 8, 2008

We finally got our Xmas lights up yesterday! The house looks so great! Our poor reindeer are in their final stages though...one doesn't move anymore and another one is missing half of his lights. BUT, for now, they look great! I can't wait to go home, the timer is set to go off at dusk. I've got to fix that, right now, they're on all night long and go off in the morning. Ugh...no, that's way too long.

Today I bought Gavin the cutest plate set with "Mater" on it. He's totally obsessed with the movie "Cars." Anything and everything with a "Cars" character and he wants it. So, we've been buying him the characters over the past few weeks. He's already got a handful, but I found some harder-to-find ones like Lizzie and the original Mater. The story is so cute, it's hard not to buy the related toys!

Our family has decided to pull names from the hat to get gifts for everyone. I'm very relieved, it was getting mighty expensive to get presents for everyone. We're a little tight on fundage right now, so the more cost cutting we can do, the better! The good thing is that we're all going to do whatever for Gavin's gifts. Jeff and I have more fun buying for him anyway.

Monday, December 1, 2008

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? A little of both
2. Real tree or Artificial? Both- if I could have a tree in every room of the house, I would. We're adding an outdoor tree this year for our furry and feathery friends outside.
3. When do you put up the tree? Usually right after Thanksgiving
4. When do you take the tree down? Probably the week after Xmas.
5. Do you like eggnog? No, too close to tasting like yucky eggs.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Wow, too hard to narrow down to one...so it would probably have to do with Barbies.
7. Hardest person to buy for? My dad, he's got everything, seen everything and read everything.
8. Easiest person to buy for? Gavin, definitely! I have more fun buying for him than anyone else!
9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes- got it 50% off after Xmas last year
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Tough call...such a waste of paper, and money (stamps). So this year I might just stick to email
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? My grandmother gave me a very typical holiday sweater...three sizes too big to boot. Already "thrilled" about the sweater, just added insult to injury to know she saw me as huge. Sadly, if I still had it, it'd fit today! (there's a reason I joined Weight Watchers this afternoon)
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Is there any other, Christmas Vacation! Every year, we play that right after opening Xmas gifts. It's a family tradition!
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually, July. No kidding. I start to look for stuff early. THIS YEAR- haven't even started! Our family will do names out of a hat- we're all penny pinching!
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes, and I usually like them.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My mom's recipe- sweet potato souflee. Always a crowd pleaser, can't go wrong
16. Lights on the tree? Depends on which tree. Gavin has red lights on his. Our white tree has white lights (but I'll probably add blue) and our real tree is multi-colored.
17. Favorite Christmas song? Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Santa Baby (Eartha Kitt only please).
18. Travel at Christmas or stay at home? Stay at home!
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Yes, but I choose not to.
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel on one, star on another, Santa on the last.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Everything on Christmas morning
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Gavin's school is closed for a week so Jeff and I have to scramble to come up with time off.
23. What theme or color are you using? all kinds
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? traditional
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? a bike, any kind of gift card (I'm still into them), a set of wooden spoons and this economy to start turning around!
So Thanksgiving was fun!

Ok, the drive was rough. It took us about 8 hours to get to Daytona. We did figure out an alternate route around Atlanta that dumps us south of McDonough. Actually, we were on target to get there in a reasonable time, but we hit a major accident about 15 miles north of our exit. We sat for 1.5 hours waiting for the emergency vehicles to do their thing. Unfortunately, it was a fatal accident. Jeff and I said a little prayer as we drove past the crash site. We were fortunate to make it to my parent's house safely.

The weather was beautiful- it was sunny and in the 70s all weekend long. We did a pretty traditional Thanksgiving meal outside.

We took Gavin on his first boat ride- what a blast! He had a great time! I think he's a little thrill seeker (he gets that from daddy). We took dad's boat to Boondocks- a little hole in the wall restaurant. Very good food!

We came back Saturday so we'd have Sunday at the house pulling out decorations and such. Before we came home, we were able to have lunch with Nonnie. She looks great! I think Florida is good for her.

Tonight I'm supposed to have coffee with my Big Sister from college. I hope she can make it, I'd love to see her. It's been way too long.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

We're heading to my parent's house tomorrow in Daytona. I'm looking forward to it, actually. It'll be nice, just our little fam and Joseph and his wife. I don't need a big, crazy family holiday thing, I'm happy with a smaller affair.

We are taking the rental car down though. I'm excited about that too. It's a PT Cruiser. Jeff picked it up yesterday. I've got to say, I kind of like the vehicle overall. If we have to replace Jeff's stolen car, that's not a bad option. However, catch me AFTER we drive it 7 hours down to Daytona.

Gavin's getting excited about seeing Pop Pop and Gigi. We've also talked to him about "Uncle Joe and Auntie Lynn." He cracks me up- such a SPONGE!

So, I'm totally in the holiday mood and ready to decorate for Xmas. As soon as we get back on Sunday, if it's not too late, I might have Jeff bring all the decorations up from the basement.

Fun! Fun!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Feeling much better these days! I've been fighting a nasty cold, that turned into bronchitis, for the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, Casa de Stevenson was a mess of sick! Jeff went to the doc yesterday, fortunately, he doesn't have bronchitis!

Gearing up for the holidays. I'll tell you, even though I make as much money as I have and Jeff's salary hasn't changed (thank goodness), it's still harder this year than ever to prepare for Xmas gifts. I think it'll be a lot of homemade goodness going to my family. I found out I'm a pretty good bread baker. I'm thinking pumpkin bread all the way (or something along those lines).

New Prez

Obama was just elected to the Presidency. How incredible. What an important turning point for our nation. Now, I hope he has a good presidency and does the right things to turn this country around. Regardless of where you stand in the vote, it's important now to stand together and support our new President.

MLK, Jr. isn't dreaming anymore...his dream has been achieved. It's pretty incredible to be part of this historic moment.

Trick or Treat!

Little man had so much fun Friday night! We only took him to two houses (neighbors that he knows) to get a taste of trick-or-treating. When he saw what was getting, he kept asking for more. Very cute.

While we sat and watched "Nemo," he ate all of his candy (all 4 pieces). When kids came to the door, he was running next to me yelling "Trick or Treat! Trick or Treat!" Totally cute. He even handed candy to kids. He had a great time!

Now I can't wait until next year when Jeff and I get to take him around the hood! I might even get all the gang together and have everyone go or something. Especially since it's on a Saturday. Ooooh... fun!

This is an oldie but a goodie:
Only in America ......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.
Only in America .......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.
Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters. Only in America ......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.
Only in America ......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.
Only in America ......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

EVER WONDER...
Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?
Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Why don't you ever see the headline 'Psychic Wins Lottery'?
Why is 'abbreviated' such a long word?
Why is it that doctors call what they do 'practice'?
Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?
Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?
Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?
You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?
If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Most of these really make me smile. How true, how true.

WOW- it's been awhile since I've written anything!

Sadly, not too much to report. Everything at Casa de Stevenson is going well. Actually, we celebrate one year in the new house on Saturday. But, since it's also Jeff's mom's wedding day, we're going to roast marshmellows over the fire tonight, a couple of days early.

Gavin is still on his Cars fix. Every day, we come home, he wants to watch the whole movie. Honestly, because he gets really upset if he doesn't see it, we give in and turn it on. I see a few bad habits forming here. It's just tough coming home from working all day and then having to cook dinner and try to relax. I know, I know, "welcome to parenthood." The good thing is, Gavin only watches it for about 10 minutes and then gets up to start playing with his own toy cars.

This weekend is Marge's wedding. We head into it with mixed feelings. On one hand, we're very happy she's found someone, on the other hand, we wish they'd dated a little longer. But, to each his own. The fun part, a lot of Jeff's family is coming into town, so I'm excited to see them. The festivities hit Friday night, so I'll try to remember to post Saturday morning.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Yesterday was the day we needed. We did come back from the wedding weekend a day early. I think it was necessary- we needed some space and to relax a bit before heading back to work.

Jeff, Gavin and I went for a nice, long walk yesterday at the Beach Club. It was nice to be able to let Maggie off her lead and take a brisk walk. The weather is cooling down- I love this time of year! Gavin and Jeff ran around the big field while I took a few power-walk laps. Afterwards, we went home and packed up a picnic lunch. There's a big lake on Emory's campus that you walk about 1/2 mile to get to. We set up a blanket and enjoyed ourselves for a couple of hours. It was very relaxing and much needed!

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Tonight was my little brother's wedding. It was such a good party! I'm so proud of him and Lynne! They'll have a wonderful life together!

Now I'm rubbing my feet and ready for bed. Just wanted to touch base before another day passed.

I think we're heading home tomorrow- the bed we're sleeping in is so uncomfortable!!! Ugh, I don't think we've slept since we got here!

Saturday, October 4, 2008

Countdown has begun to my brother's wedding. Can I tell you how excited I am??? My little brother, Fuss, is getting married! Married? Ya-married, geesh! (here's a shout out to all you "Sixteen Candles" fans)

We're leaving here Thursday morning to head to Pawleys Island, SC. We're staying in a beach house my dad has rented. I'm excited about everyone that's staying with us too. It'll be fun! I envision nights of wine bottles, joking around and such...ahhh...

The Petit Lemans race starts today at Road Atlanta. My dad is there now. I hope when Gavin gets older, we'll be able to go again. It is a fun time, although, it's a little loud.

Little man gets his hair cut today in time for the wedding. I love it when he gets it cut, he looks like quite the little gentleman. Totally adorable!

Did you watch the VP debate the other night? Regardless of which side you're going to vote on, every time I see Sarah Palin, I can't help but think of the movie "Drop Dead Gorgeous." Darn tootin'!

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

I just took a look at my schedule for the day. It's absolutely crazy! It looks like a game of Tetris gone wild! AHHHH...Calgon! Take me away!

On another note, Jeff and I figured out all of our upcoming expenses. We're going to start talking to landscapers about helping us with design ideas for the house. I'm very excited! Of course, we're going to do as much of it ourselves as we can. Money is tight you know! We don't need an HGTV backyard or anything, just a place for Gavin to run around without having to worry about poison ivy...or snakes crawling through ivy...you know, stuff like that.

Stepping into the Twilight Zone

I hate it when Blogger loses my entry- I just finished writing one, I guess I took too long, and when I went to check it out, the site gave me an error. I lost everything I had written. So annoying.

Anyway- this weekend, I had a pretty big shock. Remember when I mentioned that my neighbor had passed away? And I was feeling all guilty for not seeing her for over a year? Well, I finally made it over to the house when someone was there. Her daughter in-law opened the door. I told her that I'd heard what happened. She ushered me in. As I was asking if there was anything I could do, she said, "no, but she's in the other room."

Um..."she's in the other room"?!??!?!?!?!?! WTF!!?!?!?

Lo and behold, sitting on her green, plastic, 1970s reject couch, was my little old neighbor...ALIVE and KICKING!!!

Apparently, she fell down and broke a bone. The ambulance came and picked her up. My stupid tenant saw this, and assumed that she passed away, probably because of her age.

Fortunately, after my initial shock, I went out to the car and grabbed Gavin and Jeff. We were able to spend a little time with her and I felt much better. Her son told us that they were moving her down to a home just outside of Columbus. She has another son that lives there. They're moving her a week from today.

Sadly, I know once she moves, I'll probably never see her again. I did tell the son that we'd be happy to help with anything. I'm going to go by there this weekend to say goodbye.

Now I'm feeling all nostalgic.

Monday, September 22, 2008

Ahhh...what a great weekend! We were busy and all over the place. It started Friday night, we went out for a nice b-day dinner at one of our fav restaurants in East Atlanta. Unfortunately, like so many others in the city, it was boarded up. It's so disappointing to drive around town lately and see a handful of eateries shut down. We ended up at a place called La Casita- also in East Atlanta. Very kid-friendly and great tacos! So, I got my fix!

Saturday, we just hung around the house and got ready for everyone to come over. We went back to the Yellow River Game Ranch with a fairly large group. It was a blast! I was a little disappointed that the animals weren't eating as hardily as before. * Note to self: Go in the morning hours next time!*

Once we made it back to the house, people starting arriving for the cook out. We had a nice turnout of folks- about 20. It was fun, we all hadn't been together like that in awhile. Mark stayed until the UGA game was over (go Dawgs!). That was fun too.

Sunday we went to the last Braves home game. I got free tickets through one of my contacts- hello, can we say AWESOME seats!!! We were right behind home plate- under the overhang. Gavin made it until about the 7th inning before we had to bail because Mr. ansty pants was ready to go.

All in all, it was a great birthday weekend!

Monday, September 15, 2008

Today I am exhausted. No, wait, not exhausted...not mentally, but physically. My body aches all over- I need a massage! Yesterday was a full day- 8a-8p- but a good day. Our station event was incredible- we figure over 55,000 people came out to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Pretty impressive.

Later this week is my birthday. So, as an early birthday present, Jeff gave me faucets. "Faucets?!?!?" you ask, yes, faucets. Believe me, since we moved into our new house last October, we've talked about replacing all the sink faucets in the house. It was just too expensive and we didn't want to tackle the job. Two things I stay away from fixing in a house- plumbing and electrical, I just don't want to mess with either. So, we finally found a good, CHEAP, plumber who quoted us a crazy low price on installing the fixtures. We kept putting it off and putting it off until yesterday, when Jeff decided it'd make a good birthday present.

I've got to tell you, it does. I LOVE our new fixtures! And, I'm not one of those women who has to have all the fru-fru presents for her birthday. I'm more practical (plus, I know our budget lately) and I really did want new faucets. Hell, I'd even be happy with a new dishwasher!

In honor of my neighbor

Today I found out my neighbor of 36 years passed away. Actually, she and her husband lived in the house next to Audubon before my parents moved in. She was a sweet lady who I used to go over and visit all the time when I was a kid. Part of my neighborhood "rounds" to find out all the gossip. Yes, I started as a 5 year old, so go figure.

I hate that we didn't see her before she passed. That is completely my fault. It was one of those things I always said to myself, "I've got to take Gavin over to see Ms. Miller." She was getting up there in age...I think she was 94 or 95. The last time I saw her was the day we moved, so almost a year ago in October. I told her I'd bring Gavin by to see her and I never did. Can I tell you how sad that makes me feel? (and yes, guilty). I'm also sad that we didn't get a phone call from her family. I guess they figured our number had changed once we moved or something. I tried to go by there, but I'm thinking they were all at the service.

She and her husband used to raise Beagles. My dad remembers all the commotion they used to cause with their constant barking. Ms. Miller used to tell me stories of her sons hunting in the neighborhood as they were still developing it. The end of Audubon was a dirt road when she moved in and Sagamore hadn't even been built yet.

So, here's to Ms. Miller, may she rest in peace. I hope she says hello to my mom, I know she's hugging her husband.

Day of Remembrance

God Bless America. No matter what your race, political affiliation, size, shape, sex, whatever- 9/11 is one of those days where we all bow our heads and say a prayer (or think) of those lost on this infamous day.

Monday, September 8, 2008

Ahhh...Monday morning. Don't you just love a fresh start? A whole week in front of you? Bliss. (detect the sarcasm?)

Jeff and I finally got to rearrange our house yesterday. Since we moved in last October, we basically piled some rooms up with stuff that we really didn't know what to do with. Yesterday, we were able to go through a lot, move some furniture around, hang some pictures. It looks and feels so much better. There's nothing like a fresh look in a room.

This week is going to be a busy one for me. Our biggest event of the year is this weekend, Mexican Independence Day. It's basically a full day of music, food and celebration. I actually like the event, but I'm completely whipped afterwards.

Saturday, September 6, 2008

I love going to the hair salon. Its one of the few "me" things I do within a year. However, can we say expensive??? I had my hair highlighted this morning- $160 later (this includes a crazy tip), my hair is a few shades lighter. I'll admit, it looks nice, but I'm beginning to think "I can do this myself." Oh well, at least it will look good for the wedding.

Tomorrow we're going to a friend's daughter's birthday party. She's having a "barnyard" themed party at a park in Cobb. Gavin is going to have so much fun! I think they're even bringing in animals for the kids to pet and run around with.

So now that my hair's all "done up," I'm ready to go out! How silly are we for not planning a date night on the day I get my hair done? Maybe the family can go out for ice cream after dinner or something. It's not glamorous, but still love it!

Monday, September 1, 2008

This weekend, the Stevenson household is sick. Not terribly sick, but stuffed up and coughing sick. Fortunately, we don't have fevers and we have a long weekend to recover. The stinky part, we have a long weekend- a holiday weekend is never a fun sacrifice to the sick gods.

We went up to my mother in-law's house on Saturday. We kind of forced ourselves because we're all sick. If Jeff's brother hadn't been in town, we probably would have cancelled. The visit was good, we're warming up to Marge's new fiancee. When I say "new", I mean it. They've only been together since the middle of July. Yes, yes, a bit quick. The wedding's in October- right after my brother's. Should be an interesting month!

On our way home, Gavin got sick. I think he'd been swallowing so much mucus that it made his stomach upset. Plus, he really hadn't eaten that much all day, so not so great a combo. However, once he got it out, he seemed to feel much better!

Right now we're sitting on the couch watching Barney. I always said I wasn't going to ever watch Barney...and, until today, I hadn't. HOWEVER, when Barney came on, my kid yells, "Barney!" and is entralled for the next 30 minutes. Um...so much for that! I guess they show it at school or something.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

My week is FLYING by! I'm completely swamped at work- which is why I'm taking a break to write this quick little blog.

Jeff and I went to a fabu dinner the other night at the King Plow Arts Center hosted by Bold American Catering. It was so good! Everything was organic, farm raised or grown- tasty, tasty, tasty!

Tonight I'm going to see Mamma Mia at the Fox Theater with Andy and Libby. Should be absolutely fabulous! (nod to one of my fav shows on Comedy Central). Very much looking forward to it, but also looking forward to the weekend! Thank goodness for long holiday weekends!

Friday, August 22, 2008

Well, we did come home early from our vacation. However, we've not really gone off vacation yet. We went to the Yellow River Game Ranch yesterday morning. Gavin loved the animals! My dad said that he thinks he took me when I was a little girl, but we think it might have been the petting zoo at Stone Mountain Park. We had such a good time! Gavin liked the deers and chickens the best. Next time, we'll definitely have to buy more food before we start on the walk!

This morning, we went to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It's been awhile since I've been, it was nice to see the new additions. They have a great kids garden that we spent most of our time walking through. We went ahead and became members so we can go anytime we want for free.

Jeff and I are feeling all goal-setting right now- lose weight before Joe's wedding, build some wealth, finish house projects...etc, etc, etc. Actually, we're about to run to the store- it looks like we might be rain, but you know Atlanta- all talk!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

I'm thinking we might go home today. Tropical Storm Fay is just hanging out on the coast...seems like she needed a beach vacation too. It's not that we're worried about the storm, it's just that this is our vacation! You know, we want to swim in the pool, eat ice cream, veg in front of the tv, vacation stuff! Kind of takes the wind out of your sails when you're forced to sit inside all day. Especially with a 2 year old who wants to go outside all the time.

It appears the storm is going to go off shore, then head back inland later today. I think we'll be gone before that. It stinks though, because we'll definitely miss our visit with my family. If the storm were moving faster and was going to be gone by this evening, we'd stay. But as it looks now, it's going to hang out off shore, then move back later today, hang out tomorrow and still have some rain on Friday. Not my idea of a fun vacation.

I'm off to clean sheets and towels!!!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I can't believe I left my card reader at home. I've got some cutie-PA-tooty pictures of the boy since we've been on vaca. I keep trying to get up and get myself out to Target or somewhere to pick one up, but I'm just too lazy to do it. We did have a bit of a scare this afternoon when Gavin threw the camera across the room (shame on mom and dad for letting him have it in the first place). The lens wouldn't go back into place. I finally figured, what the heck, it's as broken as its going to get and forced the lens back into place. Who knew that would actually work!!!!

SO- we're on vacation, and a BIG storm decides to head to where we are, Daytona Beach, FL. Basically, we were in limbo all day because the rain and stuff was supposed to start last night. Didn't. THEN, it was supposed to hit mid-afternoon. Didn't. Now, it's supposed to hit tonight. I'm thinking this is really going to happen b/c the wind has picked back up. We rebelled this afternoon and got in the pool even though the wind was blowing like crazy. Actually, it wasn't too bad...besides there was no rain or thunder. I think we're sitting right on the outskirts of the storm...right now.

All in all, we're having a good time. We're heading up to Jacksonville on Thursday to see some family. Very much looking forward to it- haven't seen them in awhile.

Gavin's having a blast- we keep buying him Matchbox cars- score! He likes to line them all up so he and Jeff can count them. Very good spacial abilities this kid. Maybe he'll be an architect....hmmmm...

Sunday, August 17, 2008

First off- we didn't get here until 2:15am Saturday morning...ugh.

Secondly, we have yet to go in the pool- and it's Sunday. We spent all day yesterday recooperating from the drive and shopping at the grocery store. It's raining. And there's some big storm heading this way as we speak...er, write. C'est la vie. It's all fun and games in the Stevenson household. We've got the Olympics on (did anyone see Phelps get his 8th last night- how awesome was that??!?!?) and TONS of toys in the living room. So, we're all happy.

At least we were able to go for another walk today. My goal is to walk every day that we're here, just to start building that into my daily routine. Actually, it's really easy to walk here, the streets are flat, and, weather permitting, there's a pool to jump in when you get back.

I've got to run to the store today to get a card reader for my camera so I can upload some snaps.

Regardless of the weather, we're still having fun and RELAXING!

Last night was our first parent-teacher conference in the new room. I'm very excited! Gavin's with bigger kids who do a lot more. I was really excited when they talked about potty training- the teacher basically guaranteed that he'd be trained by the time he left that room. That's summer of next year, but hey, it's right at or even before his third b-day!

I'm feeling a little anxious right now since we're leaving tonight. I'm pretty much packed, except for a few odds and ends throughout the house. I'm thinking we won't get out of town until about 6:30p, which puts us in Daytona around 1am...or later. Ick. BUT, at least when we wake up, we'll already be there and can just fall into the pool in the backyard!

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Tomorrow we leave for our summer vacation- so happy! We're going to stay at my parent's house in Ormond Beach (spitting distance of Daytona). Happy! Happy! Happy! I'm taking my computer, so I'll send updates while I'm there.

I must say, I am completely addicted to two things right now- the Olympics and Facebook. Who knew how easy Facebook would be and how many people I could reconnect with?!

Two questions from the Olympics-
1- Does anyone know how the hell you score fencing? I have no clue...not sure I care, just thought I'd ask.
2- Why did Bob Costas dye his hair so dark? He looks terrible!

Seriously folks, I can't get enough of the Olympics- did you catch that swim relay race against the French? Hello, USA! USA! USA!

Gavin is warming up to his new room at school. It took a few days though. We have a parent-teacher conference tonight. I'm going while Jeff stays at home. The meeting isn't until 7pm. I wonder what single parents have to do since it's an "adults only" meeting. Again, my hat's off to single parents! I don't know how you do it!

Good news- the teacher told us that they're actually going to start potty training in class. Sweet! We've introduced G to his potty at home. He likes to sit on it naked...but nothing happening yet. We figured he'd do it on his own time, but, I also think if one of his friends does it, he'll be soon to follow. Ahhhh...potty training.

Monday, August 11, 2008

Ahhh...today is the first day of school for most of Atlanta's schools. There's something about this time of year. Now, I live in the heat of the South, so it's not like the leaves are falling yet or the weather has cooled down any, but there is something about a new school year. I came into work feeling all revived and yet, here I am...blogging away!

I guess it didn't help that it's not like I had a summer break...I had a weekend break, and I was sick all weekend!!!

Moving on- I did get well enough to go so some old college buddies- Paige, Paige and Windy- it was great seeing all of you! I can't believe that it's almost been 20 years since we all graduated from YHC. On the way into work, the radio station was putting together a list of songs to load onto an iPod they plan on calling "the iPod from hell." Well...some of those songs were pretty big back in the day, my day:
"I'm all out of love"- Air Supply
"What is Love"- who the hell remembers, but the song from "Nite at the Roxbury"
"Let's Get Physical"- Olivia!
"The Thong Song"- Sisqo
"Ice Ice Baby"- Vanilla Ice

Bring back any memories?

Jeff takes the first part of his real estate test today. Send good thoughts!

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

You know, I thought I'd written earlier this week. I think my computer caught something...yikes. Hopefully, it's just a glitch in the Matrix.

Gavin has discovered cars and guitars. I got him a guitar a couple of months ago...he can't go anywhere with out it. He even sleeps with it! In the morning, when he wakes up, Jeff and I can hear him tinkering on it...occasionally, he'll try to "sing" a little note. So sweet!

Last summer, we went to a neighborhood yard sale, with about 10 different houses participating. We bought Gavin a toy set from Fisher Price, stuck it on the top shelf of his closet and promptly forgot all about it. I pulled it down a day or so ago, cleaned it up and Gavin plays with it every time he goes in the family room. He makes little "vroom" and "beep beep" sounds with the cars. It so amazes me to see him go from one stage of playing to another. His playing isn't as generic as before, you can actually see him start to pretend. Very cool.

Very much looking forward to our vacation in a couple of weeks. We're heading to my parent's house in Daytona. It's a great house- right on the intercoastal waterway and they have a pool in the back. Another plus, we can take Maggie with us and not have to worry about dropping her off at Jeff's mom's house or anything like that. I'm also looking forward to hanging out on the beach.

It's funny, in Daytona, they allow you to drive on the beach. You can park and everything. Before my first "car/beach" experience, I was a little opposed to the idea. Between the traffic and dirtiest, it didn't seem like a good idea to me. HOWEVER, after our last visit, the convenience of the car so close is FABU! Half of my stuff didn't get covered in sand, I could keep the cooler in the car (thus, the ice didn't melt as fast since it wasn't in the blazing sun) and it was easier to pack up when it was time to go.

Saturday, August 2, 2008

I love Saturday mornings ~ Sesame Street, the Wiggles, cartoons of all sorts and my son running around with his eukelele (I'm so sure that's not how you spell it) pretending it's a guitar. His "tar" is his favorite toy. I bought him a eukelele when I was in Santa Cruz in early June and he's still totally addicted. I hope his interest keeps, I'd love for him to learn how to play the guitar at some point. Actually, I'd love to take lessons with him!

Jeff has his real estate class again today so Gavin and I are going to Decatur to get his hair cut. I'll probably stop at Starbucks on the way home for a little treat. Afterwards, we might hit up the cheap book shop to see what's new on the shelves. Or, I might head to Target to get the little man some new jammies. Might sound like a mundane day, but I'm really looking forward to it!

Later today, we're heading to Mark's apartment to meet the gang and cook out. Because of Jeff's class, we won't be there until much later than everyone else, but that's ok. It'll be nice to see everyone.

(Side note- Jeff is now "wailing" on the eukelele- go daddy go!)

Thursday, July 31, 2008

You know the end of summer is near when cars start appearing in local school parking lots. Ahhh...the days of light traffic and the pool after work are coming to a close.

I must say that I'm going to miss the summer. Normally, I'm ready for the cooler weather, sweaters and the holidays, but this year, I've really enjoyed the summer. I think it's because we really took advantage of the pool and even though it's been hot, it's not bothered me as much. Now, don't get me wrong, we're only one day away from August, which is typically our hottest month, so I may be singing a different tune in a week or so.

Jeff and I are a little sad, we received a notice that the pool will be closing early starting the week of August 11. It means we won't be able to go during the week anymore. We've gotten used to going at least twice during work days and once over the weekend.

I talked to my aunt last night, she just got back from a fabulous trip to Italy. I can't wait until Jeff and I can go to Italy! Not that we're planning it or anything... I love Italy! The food is delicious, the sights are beautiful, the people are wonderful! I went about 6 years ago with my friend Rashid. We had a terrific time! My favorite city was Venice. It wasn't smelly and the place was one where you could just get lost and enjoy yourself for a day.

Sunday, July 27, 2008

I am so exhausted. Our station had an event yesterday and I basically worked from 7a to 4p. At least today is Sunday! Jeff is taking a cram course for real estate school. Did I menion he's working on getting his real estate license? I know, I know- how crazy does that sound? Well, we've always fancied ourselves real estate moguls in the making. I guess if you can make it work now, when the market is so down, you can make it work anytime!

Slipped a little on the diet yesterday- I didn't really go prepared to the event. That's ok, I'm going to take the little man up to the elementary school in our neighborhood. I'm thinking after Gavin wears himself out on the jungle gym, I can take him for a little stroll around the track.

Guess we ought to head out before the sun gets too high in the sky.

Thursday, July 24, 2008

This evening we learned pretty quickly that hanging out by the baby pool isn't always a good thing. We spent more time chasing Gavin in and out of the kiddie pool, over to the slide, across to the swing set and down the hill that our normally relaxing visit to the 'hood pool wasn't so great.

You see, tonight we decided to "be smart and take dinner with us." Our little neighborhood pool has a bajillion gas grills that anyone can use so we decided to take some burgers and dogs and kill two birds with one stone (normally, we get back, rush to put the G-man to bed and then I hurridly try to make some dinner- hopefully before 10pm). Because we were going to cook, instead of sitting on the far side of the pool (close to the deep end), we sat next to the kidde pool next to the grills. Gavin was so entralled with all the kids running around and doing whatever they wanted, he felt the need to join in.

Now, call me a stuck-up or over-cautious parent, but I don't want my little 2 year old scurrying up the slide (with no rails) and flying down it into the mud (with another random 3 year old hot on his tail). Nor do I want my kid mowed over by the big kids that raid the kiddie pool during adult swim.

Jeff and I have decided that we're "deep end" parents. We prefer the dark side of the pool. And, honestly, there seems to be a different kind of parent on that side of the pool. More relaxed, more real...less plastic. We also know that Gavin isn't as distracted on that side of the pool.

Maybe being on the far side isn't so bad after all, I'd rather be deep than shallow!

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Did I mention yesterday that I actually lost 5 pounds over the past week??? How crazy is that? I'm very excited- and a bit more motivated!

Monday, July 21, 2008

Had a great weekend in Nashville with Windy. I forgot my camera today, so as soon as I get home, I'll upload some snaps. Her baby is so cute! He's got a great smile. Gavin had a blast playing with Fisher, Windy's other son. Of course, it's easy to keep him happy when basically ever toy he played with was "new" in his mind! It was also nice to take a relaxing swim in their pool and just hang out and do nothing.

The ride back was lots of fun (not), I stopped three times before we even hit Chattanooga. LOVE an upset stomach! Let me tell you, there are ZERO rest areas between Nashville and Chattanooga- what brilliant engineer/planner/whatever, thought of that??? So we had to stop at a Barnes & Noble that I found right off the highway. $40 dollars worth of kid's books and a quick trip to the ladies later, we were back on the road. At least Gavin was occupied with in-flight entertainment. Unfortunately, the DVD player gave out just north of Chattanooga...the good thing, G-man fell asleep soon afterwards.

Donna Kay and her clan came over last night for a quick visit. That was also a good visit. It was nice to see them again- it had been over a year!!! I can't believe how much her boys have grown! They had fun with all of Gavin's toys...and Gavin had fun just watching them! They play hard, which is right up his alley!

Again- as always, TGIF!

I'm heading to Nashville in a few hours ~ very excited. Jeff's both happy and sad to see us go. He's looking forward to sleeping in and watching whatever he wants on the tube (and not Elmo or Sesame Street 24/7). However, he's going to miss us, oh, probably about 2 hours after we're gone.

Found out yesterday that my friend, Mercedes, is due for another bambino in February! Very cool! Kind of funny though, my cousin, Allison, is due around the same time. What makes that interesting is that Allison and Mercedes' first children are only 2 weeks apart! They're on the same baby sched!

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I really want a bike. We looked at one a couple of weeks ago at Target. It's pink and it's name is "Roxie." Totally love it. However, the fundage is a little lacking these days so, alas, it will have to wait. We just really had such a good time last year at the beach riding bikes. We probably should have just ridden that high all the way to the store when we got back.

I'm looking forward to this weekend, on another note. I'm heading to Nashville to see my friend Windy. She and I were roomies in college. Go YHC! Anyway, she just had her second child- another boy. I can't wait to meet him. The pictures of him are adorable. His name is Cooper. Such a cute name!

Monday, July 14, 2008

I did the coolest thing last night. There's a website you can go to and upload your picture to see yourself after a weight loss of 10, 20, 30 or 50 pounds. They "enhance" the picture to take the weight off. For visualization purposes, it's very cool. I did it with the highest loss, of course, and it's nice to see what I'd look like! That's my after picture.
The website is great- you can do it for free! www.weightview.com.

Friday, July 11, 2008

I'm SO ready for the weekend! Here's freaky- some dark, thunderous rainstorm just moved through our fine town- now it's sunny outside! Ahhhh...can't wait to feel that humidity!!! Good thing my hair is up or else we'd have big troubles.

TGIF!!!
People need to stop bringing food into the office. 'nuf said.

What a vacation! We went to my parent's house in Ormond Beach, FL over the 4th of July holiday. We had such a good time. I miss sleeping in. My parents were great, they'd take care of the little man in the morning while Jeff and I slept in. There is something to be said about vacationing with built in baby-sitters...ahem, my parents, I mean.

We watched the fireworks from across the street from my dad's

house. It was nice because the noise wasn't too loud (and didn't scare Gavin). We did get a front-row seat to some red neck fun. Some idiot decided to light 3-foot sparklers in the middle of the fireworks presentation. Then, immediately after lighting them, decided they didn't want them lit. So, they proceeded to try and extinguish a 1600 degree flame with his shoe. Smart. Needless to say, the sparkler burned out, wasted in the grass. At least a fire didn't spread!

On Monday, we went to the beach. It took Gavin a little bit to get used to the water and waves, but once he got a taste of it, he had a blast! It was so much fun to watch him lay in the sand as the water came up around him. He laughed and giggled everytime a wave came in.

Jeff and I decided it made much more sense to just take our family vacation at their house when we go in August. Dad offered up the house- he said he and Deb didn't plan on being there in August anyway. Now we hope they make it! They had such a good time with Gavin. And, they both light up whenever he's around. I think it's good for all of us, actually. (doesn't hurt to be able to go on a date night without worrying about paying for a babysitter)

Today we're just getting back into the swing of things. Starting up with the diet again (that got blown over the weekend).

Off to hit up the office coffee maker- it's almost 10a and I haven't had my first cup yet! Crazy!

Monday, June 30, 2008

Our weekend was great! The little man had such a good time at his party! I really like our pool- it makes me feel so nostalgic. It rained sideways just as the party was starting, so we kept the food covered and just huddled under the shelter. The rain was great- it cooled everything off and sent everyone home. So, when we were ready to go swimming, we basically had the pool to ourselves.

Once I get my pix uploaded, I'll post them. Gavin had so much fun in the rain! Aba and Abo (Tim and Mary Lee) gave him a bunch of bubble makers to play with and he had the stuff all over his feet! When he walked, the bubbles squished through the toes of his Crocs. He'd run out into the rain, throw the bubbles around then come back for more. He was laughing the entire time!

Jeff and I have had our fill of cupcakes for awhile. We bought them from Sam's and we finally got rid of the last three this morning. Ugh.

On the diet front, not too bad of a week. I think I lost 2 pounds, but it's hard to tell b/c halfway through the week, I realized my scale was off. I readjusted it, but it's too close to tell what the difference might be.

We looked at bikes this weekend too. It looks like we're going to have to wait awhile for that, we've got too many other things we'd like to get (Thrashers tickets, topsoil, etc.).

Friday, June 27, 2008

TGIF! What a weekend! Gavin's b-day party is Saturday. Some of the gang are coming to our pool to grill out and take a dip. His actual birthday isn't until Sunday, but it's always easier to get together on Saturdays!

The diet is getting better. I"ve dropped a couple of pounds- I just can't help myself, I have to look at the scale! I was hungrier earlier in the week but now it's not as bad. I guess I'm getting used to it. I've got to add some exercise though. That's the toughest part...how to juggle a demanding job, a child, cooking, life AND add 30 minutes of exercise at least 4 times a week. Anyone with any suggestions? I'm thinking about actually joining another gym (ugh.) so I can go during lunch or something. I believe I'd be better at classes than walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes. That always gets boring to me.

Guess I ought to get to my meeting...Happy weekend!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Oh my...tengo hambre! Lock up your fridge!

It's amazing what happens when you cut your calorie intake in half! Starving. I always thought they say said "I'm never hungry" on this diet or that diet. I'll tell you, with this one, I'm ALWAYS hungry! This can't be good.

Monday, June 23, 2008

What a great weekend. Jeff and I were finally able to have a date night, it had been too long. It's funny, we have such a great time with the little man, we often forget about each other. Not that we neglect each other, but we'd rather hang out with him at home than go out. It's funny, I always feel like we're totally out of sorts when we go out. Most of the time, we go out with intentions of dinner AND a movie, but that rarely happens! However, finally, the wise old men have gotten it right and opened a movie tavern around the corner from our house. So, Jeff and I head out Saturday night, little man safe at home with his Grammie, all set to see the new Indy flick. For those of you that have no clue what an "Indy flick" is, shame on you! Anyway, just before we leave, I decide to check the listings again. Of course, they've changed and now there isn't an evening showing for the movie.

We decide to go out anyway, we'll just see "Sex in the City." Now, I know my loving, caring hubby kept saying he'd be happy to see "Sex," but come on, we all know the truth. Fortunately, we left so early we found ourselves with about an hour b4 showtime. We figured we'd have enough time to eat somewhere else, then head over to another theater that was showing the new Indy film. Success!

The movie was great- such fun camp and you've gotta love Speilberg's direction and flare for the dramatic! Of course, Harrison Ford is still timeless to me and I always enjoyed his comedic delivery in these films. All in all, thumb's up!

Jeff and I started our joint diets this morning. I'm nervous, I have so much to lose! But, I've made out a plan that has small goals attached to it. I'm hoping that helps. My first goal is 11 pounds. I'm not putting a time frame on it b/c I think that makes me stumble a little bit.

Wish us luck!

We looked at bikes this weekend. Jeff got his old one from his mom's house. He's got to replace the tires and it's good to go. We need to get something for Gavin to ride around in. Unfortunately, we missed out on a great deal for one of those kid rider thingys (yes, I really can't remember the name) that rides behind the bike like a cart. There was a deal at Target a few weeks ago, but we didn't have the $$. Hopefully we'll find one soon! And, I get a bike...

Monday, June 16, 2008

Whirlwind trip to Santa Cruz is over. I had a blast with my family! They are so much fun!

Got to stay in a hotel right on the water- overlooking Monterey Bay. Saw seal lions, whales and otters. Don't see that any day in Atlanta!

Darcy's graduation was cool, but sunny. Felt less than intelligent amongst so many doctors.

Basic summary- will write more later!

Monday, June 9, 2008

The weekend was good. I had to work on Saturday- but the event was quick and easy! We went to the pool for the rest of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Jeff and I are talking dirt. And I mean big time dirt. Enough to fill the gaping hole in our front yard that's begging for plant life! Hopefully, when I get home, there might be some folks filling in that dirt hole. OH- bonus, the floor guys come today. Yea!!!! Clean floors in my kitchen! It's amazing to me the things that get me excited these days...

I'm heading to the West Coast in a few days. I can't wait! I'm going to Santa Cruz for my cousin's graduation. She's getting her doctorate. I pretty much lose any sense of smartness when I'm around her. It'll be nice to see her, my other cousin and my aunt.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Already the heat has hit. I hate heat. I'm talking extreme heat- over 95 degrees extreme. Today it's supposed to be 90 degrees. We're getting close to my pass out mark.

WET 'N CALM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pool. That's all we did this weekend. Hang out at the pool. We got Gavin a cutie-pie life jacket, that actually fits, and he loves it! He can float around a little more freely now. We've actually started to teach him how to kick...and he's doing it!!! We went yesterday and he stayed in the pool for over 30 minutes. Our normal "in-pool" time is about 15 to 20 minutes, tops.

I think he's finding a sense of independence with the new life jacket, so he wants to swim more. He does also get fascinated watching the older kids play. He's dying to join them, I can see it in his eyes! What a little fish!

Plus, to add to the good weekend, I've lost 4 pounds now! I'm so happy! I'm going to kick it up a bit, because I was a slacker last week- but hey, I'll take the 4 pounds!

Thursday, May 29, 2008

You know, I really love the summer. I get so nostalgic at the pool- bring out the Countrytime Lemonade! Gavin's first swim at the pool this season was hilarious. That boy was born to swim. He had such a good time. I think he thinks he can swim though. Methinks we have to put him in swim lessons pretty soon!

The tree guys finally came and finished up what they started last week. The yard is a total mess now- but that's ok- I know it'll be great once we can plant some flowers and lay down some grass.

I'm looking forward to this weekend- just relaxing at the pool! Again, break out the lemonade and grilled cheese sandwiches!

Working for the Weekend!

I love 3 day weekends! Yesterday the fam traveled up to check out some outdoor furniture for our sun porch. We're not ready to buy yet, but we know what we're going to get!

Lynn and Joseph were in town last weekend for Debbie's surprise birthday party- I finally uploaded the pictures to my computer!

We're heading to the pool today for our first visit of the year! Looking forward to it- not looking forward to getting into a bathing suit! I do feel better about myself this week- I've walked 4 times and we're going to go again today.

We had 11 trees taken out of our yard on Friday- it looks so bare now! Now comes the design part. I think we could do a lot ourselves, but we're probably going to hire someone to help out.

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

We had our first parent-teacher conference yesterday. You know, I'm not one to brag (well, maybe a little), but our child rocks! Our teacher is so proud of him and she loves him so much it made both Jeff and I a little teary-eyed. We truly are blessed. Plus, as an added bonus- we found out our teacher was a former pediatrician in Russia. Who knew? We always thought she was from Germany. She truly is a wonderful person- she gets so happy when she's talking about Gavin.

We went for a walk last night- man, am I outta shape! It felt good to sweat a little though. I really need to get some sort of schedule worked out. I've kind of decided that karate isn't for me right now. I'm not sure if it's b/c I feel rather inadequate or if I'm still too out of shape. I think once I drop some weight, I'd like to go back. Right now, though, I do need to find some other kind of class I can take after work (or during) on a regular basis.

My spirits are still high too. Guess I ought to go grab a snack so I don't reach for something I shouldn't!

Monday, May 19, 2008

Mondays aren't usually so much fun- but I think b/c my weekend was so great, I'm in a fabu mood today! I'm all pumped and energized!
3 of my favorite people have birthdays in May- Debbie, Jeff and Andy. They all hit one after another- Debbie's was last Thursday, Jeff's on Friday and Andy's Saturday. Debbie's was special this year b/c it's her 60th (and she looks like she's still in her late 40s/early 50s). My dad planned a surprise b-day for her. My brother and his fiancee, Lynn, came into town and a few of my parent's friends all gathered at a really nice restaurant for dinner. We had such a great time! I haven't laughed that much in awhile, of course, it doesn't hurt that the wine was flowing!
Yesterday, we went to lunch with the fam before Joseph and Lynne had to head out. Then, Jeff and I ran some errands (including getting his birthday present, yes, I'm a slacker). All in all, it was a great day and fantastic weekend!
I'm almost tentative to write about it, but I'm starting my diet again. I've got to look better than this for Joseph's wedding in October. I can't believe I've let 2 months go by without doing anything. I mean, yes, I've taken some karate classes, but nothing regular. I'm beginning to think that walking really is my best mode of exercise. Not that I don't want to do the karate, but it's really hard for me being at this weight. I can't even do a simple toe stretch! Ugh. So disappointed in myself. BUT- gotta persevere and move forward! Thus, I start again!
Motivate! Motivate! Motivate!

Viva Cinco de Mayo!

Yesterday was our station's Cinco de Mayo event at a local mall. What a blast! It was a great event, but I'm exhausted!

Last night, it was comfort food all the way! Fried chicken, mashed taters, slaw and biscuits- Southern style!

I got home in time to put the little man down. I missed him all day! My event started at noon, but I was out the door at 7:30a for setup. What weekend? I'm ready for FRIDAY!

Saturday, May 3, 2008

Gavin seems to be getting up earlier and earlier. Not sure why- he's going to bed a little bit later than before. We tried to keep a 7pm bedtime routine, but he'd lay in bed and cry for about 30-45 minutes before falling asleep. So we moved the routine to 7:30p- and he would fall asleep within 10 minutes most nights. Perfect, so we thought, we didn't want him crying every night! But alas, now he's up a little bit earlier each morning. Today it was 6:15a. Ah, part of me can't wait for the age where he recognizes weekends!

Today Gavin is going to his first "friend birthday party." One of his classmates, Sophia, is turning 2. She's having a party at "Bouncing Bob's." It's one of those spacious rooms with tons of stuff for kids to romp around on. I'm so looking forward to seeing Gavin have fun! Don't worry, I'll take snaps! Unfortunately, Jeff won't be able to join us ~ he's going to make the "rent run" this morning. Hopefully he'll make it for a few, he's going to leave super-early.

Tomorrow is our station's Cinco de Mayo event. I'm looking forward to it being over. I swear, getting ready for these big events really takes me out of commission. I'm so busy at work, I can hardly get anything done! Fortunately, my new assistant started a couple of weeks ago. She's great! I still haven't gotten her up to speed on some things, but we've been really busy on Cinco and she's been a terrific help.

BIRTHDAY GIRL!

One more mention- Maggie's birthday was yesterday ~ all hail the Little Girl!

She turned 8. Now she's sporting a brand new pink collar and tag with her name on it. Mommy made her dog biscuits and we bought her a couple of new toys.

WOW! I didn't realize I hadn't posted anything for so long.

What's been going on?? Well, we went to the mountains a couple of weeks ago. One of my friends at work has a cabin on Lake Rabun that she rents out. So we went for the weekend. It was great- Marge met up with us on Saturday. The cabin is beautiful! Gavin had fun because we could take a walk everyday and there were some neighborhood dogs that joined us everytime we went.

While we were there, we visited a friend of mine who lives in Hiawassee. She and her partner live in a house on the side of a mountain that overlooks Lake Chatuge. It's quick lovely. The view is incredible.

Other than that, we're still painting (well, Jeff is) the house. He's finishing up the main bathroom today. I choose a color called "Daredevil" that's RED RED RED. I love it! Every house should have a RED room!

Last night I went out with the gang- Jimmy the Greek is in town for Greek Easter. He's such a trip! We went out to dinner and got caught up then met Mark, Rashid and Victor for coffee. Jimmy lives out in San Diego now. I miss having him around, but he's really happy, which is great, because he wasn't here.

Today its raining so I'll have to figure out some fun activities for me and the boy. We were hoping we could go to Stone Mountain, but it's not looking that way. I think some of my girlfriends from Fox 97 are coming over this afternoon. It should be nice catching up with them.

I guess I ought to go feed my child, he's tugging at my sleeve and saying "jus, jus, jus."

Two fun things happened/are going to happen this week: #1- I won an iPod Nano at a B-to-B event we worked. How fun is that? My first MP3! Yes, I know, "How Stone Age" of me. Just could never justify the expense...have kid, will travel. Anyway, I LOVE IT. And, I can already tell I'm going to spend way too much on $.99 songs.

#2- We are going to mountains tomorrow for a little family outing. Very excited, ready to get out of town and hang with the fam.

Dad came over a couple of days ago to see the little man. How cute are they?

Jeff signed up for his real estate class. It starts the first week in May. We're both ready to start our own business and make our own money. Even though the market isn't that great right now, we both think it'll turn around soon enough.

I'll post more pictures after our trip up to the hills.

Last week several of my Young Harris friends were in town. They came over and we had dinner Wednesday night. It was fun! We caught up, we joked about old times, we ate well. We had to be careful not to veer too much to the old YHC stories, our spouses were there and they've heard enough. It was funny to see us all with our significant others...and kids! How old are we now??? I still cling to my 20s, even though I'm closer to my 40s.

This past weekend I went to Gatlinburg with Rachel, Anna and Stephanie. It was supposed to be Rachel's wedding weekend, but her ex-fiance cancelled the wedding 3 weeks ago. Who does that? He says he's not ready for marriage and couldn't love her like she deserved to be loved. Basically what it boils down to is that he just didn't want to be married to her, or even be with her and now it's over. She's still hurting though, understandably. It'll take some time.

I talked to my dad last night- he hooked up with an old friend while he was in Daytona last week. His friend, Dave Smith, and he used to be business partners and friends. They hadn't spoken or seen each other for about 10 years. Much has changed. Dad said Dave and his wife came over for dinner one of the nights- they exchanged kid and grandkid pictures. I really think dad gets tickled over that- he's such a proud Grandpa!!!

Here's the interesting part- One of Dave's kids, Eric, used to be really into karate. In fact, the last time I saw Eric, he was visiting us for summer break- I must have been about 20-something. His enthusiam for karate got me interested and I took it briefly (15 years ago, mind you). Last week (before I knew that Dad had reconnected with Dave), I went to the place I used to take karate and signed back up. Fortunately, when I signed up 15 years ago, I did the "lifetime" membership- so, other than the cost for a new karate outfit, there's no cost! How exciting is that??? Look out world- I'm about to learn how to kick butt!

Lucia and I came to some good conclusions today. It's time for Jeff and I to get our real estate licenses. Gavin deserves better from his parents then stress and worry. We want to be better teachers than that. We want to give him something more precious than anything material on this Earth...our love and time.

Gavin's favorite thing to do is take the dog for a walk. Maggie doesn't seem to mind either...all hail the little girl!

back at work today...nuff said.

Our Research Conference ended today- I really like going! It's great to get together with a bunch of my peers and exchange ideas and commisserate... :). I do wish we could do it more than once a year!
I'm in Tampa this week for a Research conference. It's actually not too bad. I usually have at these things and learn a lot. There's a lot of brain power in the room, that's for sure!

I miss my men though. Jeff said he and the little man is doing really well.

Guess I ought to run, time to get some breakfast!

It's been a minute since I was last on, huh?

So, we went to my brother's engagement party last weekend in Pawleys Island, SC. It was pretty fun- SC's elite showed up, which was fun to watch. Interestingly enough, one of the guests, Lynne's uncle, took a class that my great grandfather, the Lord, taught at Clemson. Plus, his wife was his secretary for about a year and a half. Small world!

We stayed in a sweet Inn, the Litchfield Inn, right on the beach. It was great- we had a suite, so Gavin had his own room. Definitely worth it.

It was nice seeing all of Joseph's old college friends, it had been awhile. Everyone looks great and seems to be doing well.

On another note, Dad started his cancer treatments this past week. He's staying pretty positive, so am I, actually. It's not like his cancer is aggressive, even if it isn't curable. As long as he takes care of himself, I'll be ok. Speaking of which, I need to do the same. At this point, I'd be happy if I lost just 15 pounds. At least my face wouldn't look as fat as it does right now.

It's so hard for me to stay focused and regiment on this diet. It shouldn't be, but it is. The thing about this diet is that it ends and when you get to the maintenance point, I'd basically be eating like I was on Weight Watchers. Which, is easy. Wish me luck, I need it!

BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS

So, I still haven't gotten back on my diet successfully. Once again, going to try today to stay on course. My weight has fluctuated back up a bit so I need to find that motivating force again.

On another note, took the little man to his first circus last night. What a hoot! He sat in our laps and watched everything going on. We went to Barnum and Bailey, so it wasn't like there was a dull moment. My favorite act is the tiger act. They are so beautiful. You know, I used to cry after the circus...not that I've gone in a LONG time- I think the last time I went, I was thirteen. Just like zoos, the animals in cages made me upset. The circus act has changed a bit though, its more about human strength than anything. It was a lot of fun, actually. My goodness, they have a lot of toys to sell though! I told Jeff that when we come back, I'm going to buy Gavin whatever he wants- I always wanted one of those fun toys!

Guess I ought to run to get the little man something for breakfast!

I fell off my diet over the past couple of days. I'm a little disappointed in myself, but know I've got to get over it and pick it right back up today. I don't think I planned very well last week- plus, I have a hard time saying "no" when someone asks if I want to go to lunch or not.

I'm supposed to go walking with Laney this morning, so that should help kick me back in mentally!

Yesterday, Debbie's adopted mom passed away. She has been battling so many diseases for quite some time. I haven't seen her in a long time, it's probably been close to 4 years. Still, I was a little sad for her, she was still Debbie's mom. Hopefully we'll be able to see Dad and Deb before they head to Boston next week.

Debbie said she went peacfully with a bunch of people in the room, she would have wanted it that way.

On another note, after we go walking this morning, I want to run to Borders to get a book on websites...there's so much to learn!

The Big Squeeze

Had my first mammogram. Not fun. Not hurtful either though. My doc just wanted me to get a "baseline" since there's so much cancer history in my family (grandmother, mom, dad, grandfather). Unfortunately, I had to go back yesterday because they "saw something." I wasn't too worried, the lady that did it the first time warned me that that might happen. I hadn't realized how much I'd internalized my worry until the nurse tech told me I was ok. I almost cried.

Its just amazing how your first thoughts go to- "my boobs are going to fall off" when you hear the words "we saw something" and you have to go back in.

Now, the second time, it did hurt- they have to squeeze harder so they can pinpoint the area.

Fortunately, I won't have to go back until I'm 40. Yea...4 more years!

I love Saturdays- hanging out with the little man, sleeping in a little bit...

Going to walk with a friend of mine this morning- gotta get my exercise routine down. Andy came over last night and cooked dinner with me. It was yum- stuffed chicken, sauteed spinach, eggplant parm (the lite version). Afterwards, we did a little house hunting for him.

We're going to visit Grammie this afternoon, I can't remember the last time we were there! I can't believe how long it's been. We've got to start visiting the grandparents more often. It's just easier since we know our house is somewhat child proofed. I'm still looking forward to going up for a visit though.

Tommorow will be a long day- the station is holding a singing contest, it's going to be all day- NOT looking forward to it.

FRIDAY! FRIDAY! FRIDAY!

Need I say more?

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Today I'm taking Gaving to get his hair cut, not his first. This is like his 10th haircut- we didn't wait the normal year for the first hair cut. He was born with a full head of hair and it grows like a weed- we just got tired of people asking us what our little girl's name is...nice.

Afterwards, I'm going to go walking with a friend of mine. Looking forward to it because I haven't walked in awhile and I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

Last night, Andy and I went to the hockey game (Thrashers vs. Sabres). We had a blast- the game was good and the conversation was too. He said most of the gang were dieting and helping each other out- I told him my plans to start on Monday. I'm real excited about it- I think this time I'm really going to stick with it!

NHL All Star Weekend has begun...

Yesterday Jeff and I went to see a couple of the Jr. All Star games- they were so cute! And, not too surprisingly, the kids were pretty good! Dad met us at the Cooler and we sat, drank our hot chocolate, and talked about Gavin's future on the ice. I mean, NOT that we're total "hockey parents" yet, think of "pageant moms", but it was pretty funny being the only people there yesterday without a kid on the ice.

Honestly, if Gavin shows zero interest in hockey, that's fine with Jeff and I. We'll encourage him in whatever sport, musical interest or hobby that he likes. I'll tell you what was surprising about yesterday, the cost that one parent said she spent in a year for her son to play- $20,000! Gulp.

Monday, January 21, 2008

Gavin and I hung out today- we had such fun! He's such a good little boy! Jeff is painting our living room right now. We hope to have it finished before our Super Bowl get together in a couple of weeks. Right now, Gavin is watching the Wiggles- he's still not sure what it is, but it still gives mommy a moment while he's occupied for a minute. Usually, the novelty only lasts about ten minutes, but I'll take it!

My uncle had surgery today ~ the doctors thought he might have colon cancer. Good news, it doesn't look like he does! They won't know for sure for another week, but at least its not as bad as they originally thought. I believe my grandfather had colon cancer, but can't remember.

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions- but I am resolving to loose some weight and get healthy this year. I want to live a long life to see my son have his own children. I'm a little inspired by a friend of mine- she had gastric bypass surgery and has lost quite a bit of weight. I know that I can't have the surgery, I don't think I'd want to- it'd have to be a last resort. But, ever since she did, she's completely changed her life. She works out regularly, eats well and its rubbing off on her family.

I've got a few books that I'm going to read- even one that my dad has talked about by a guy named Trudeau.
http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Loss-Cure-They-About/dp/097878510X/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200952687&sr=8-1

Its about eating organic foods and the overall food/grocery industry. I know there's some truth in it, it's amazing the stuff we put in our mouths. I'm reading a book right now called "Protein Power." Its pretty interesting. I have insulin resistance, so for me, a diet with higher protein, low fat and low carbs is better.

Ok- I've got a toddler who's hitting capacity playing upstairs with mom so I better get a snack in him before he bursts!

My two guys- on our snow day...

Snow!!!
Gavin's first "snow day" was a blast yesterday! Just thought I'd post a quickie snap...

New Day

Just so you know where the title to the web page comes from- "Little Girl" is what Jeff and I call our dog Maggie. She's our "little girl"- we call her a variety of names, but this is our favorite- along with "LG".

So, the snow melted before the end of the day- what a disappointment! There's very little left on the ground today.

My dad and step-mom are coming down later today and we're all going to a hockey game. We are a hockey family. I grew up going to Flames games with my dad and my husband grew up going to New Jersey Devils games with his. I met my husband online and our first date was a Thrashers/Devils game. How appropriate...huh?

My two men let me sleep in this morning, so I guess I ought to go brush my teeth and start the day!

SNOW DAY!!!

For my first post, I thought I'd write about the beautiful snow falling in our neighborhood and that my son (the cutest red head in our world) is standing in front of me with a trash bag blowing bubbles through his mouth.

Who am I?
I am Stephanie, the mother of a sweet, adorable 18 month old boy, Gavin. My husband is Jeff- and he's wonderful!

This will be a quick post, just to get started because the snow is falling like crazy outside and, being that it's Atlanta, we never see the white stuff!!! I'll post pictures later.

Ok- out to run around and act like a 10 year old !
