Christmas has come and gone. We had a great holiday with the grandparents. Gavin racked up on some great toys and books! He's wearing his favorite pair of Little Einstein PJs right now!

Mom and Dad have gotten into collecting the Cars models. We're on a mission to find some of the harder ones...like Bob Cutlass or one of the tractors.

I have this week off and I'm really having fun with Gavin. We had lunch with Mercedes and Amy Logan (and her son) yesterday. Today, we've got a bunch of errands to run and then we're having lunch with my old friend, Erika.

I think tomorrow night we're going to have a few friends over for dinner and then have a quiet New Year's Eve celebration.

We're still having trouble finding a new car for Jeff. It's not that there's nothing out there, hello auto dealers are practically giving them away, it's that our hearts aren't in it. Jeff misses his old car, understandably, it's what he knew. So, we're going back and forth on whether we should buy used or new. There are so many good deals out there on a new car, this might be the only time in my life that I would be OK buying on the lot!

On another, happier note- can you belive the that the Falcons are going to the playoffs!?!?!? How great is that!?!? I'm so happy for them! After last year's disasterous year, they totally deserved this season!

Sweet Smile

Sweet Smile
Sweet Smile,

Cute little man at his Christmas concert last week.
Methinks we'll be revisiting how many pumpkin bread loaves are going out this year. Jeff took the first load to the post today and the handful of boxes he took rang in at $50. Considering we have twice as many more to send, I think we'll be going through the list tonight. Part of the problem is that the loaves are just so heavy! I probably should have just made boocoodles of kalachky cookies. "What's a kalachky cookie?" you ask? It's a Czech cookie that's so yummy and good and so easy to make! I actually plan to make some this weekend to bring into work next week.

I can't believe that Xmas is next week! Jeff and I have barely done any shopping. I must say, since becoming a mommy, the days of shopping in September are long gone! Now, I'm lucky to have everything together BEFORE Christmas!

I'm still in my baking frenzy with pumpkin bread. Jeff and I figure we need about 30 loaves to take care of everyone. I've got 12 done. The good thing is that I bought a couple extra pans so I can cook 4 at a time. Now, just gotta get that flour and sugar...oh, and pumpkin!

We received a card from Ms. Miller...remember her, she was the lady I thought was dead and really had just fallen down? Anyway, she's happy down in south Georgia near her family. It's funny, I may have seen her once a year for the past five years, but now that she's gone, I miss knowing that she's at home. Funny how that happens...

I'm really at a loss for words today. Not much to say, not much to report. Just gearing up for Xmas and the family coming over. I can't believe it's in two weeks! Where has the year gone? You know, it really is weird how time just seems to speed up the older we get. Even though I still feel like I'm in my 20s (well, except for that random back spasm, or crick in my knees), I remember it taking forever to get to Christmas. Now, WHAM, it's here.

As my son would say, "what happened!?"

We finally got our Xmas lights up yesterday! The house looks so great! Our poor reindeer are in their final stages though...one doesn't move anymore and another one is missing half of his lights. BUT, for now, they look great! I can't wait to go home, the timer is set to go off at dusk. I've got to fix that, right now, they're on all night long and go off in the morning. Ugh...no, that's way too long.

Today I bought Gavin the cutest plate set with "Mater" on it. He's totally obsessed with the movie "Cars." Anything and everything with a "Cars" character and he wants it. So, we've been buying him the characters over the past few weeks. He's already got a handful, but I found some harder-to-find ones like Lizzie and the original Mater. The story is so cute, it's hard not to buy the related toys!

Our family has decided to pull names from the hat to get gifts for everyone. I'm very relieved, it was getting mighty expensive to get presents for everyone. We're a little tight on fundage right now, so the more cost cutting we can do, the better! The good thing is that we're all going to do whatever for Gavin's gifts. Jeff and I have more fun buying for him anyway.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? A little of both
2. Real tree or Artificial? Both- if I could have a tree in every room of the house, I would. We're adding an outdoor tree this year for our furry and feathery friends outside.
3. When do you put up the tree? Usually right after Thanksgiving
4. When do you take the tree down? Probably the week after Xmas.
5. Do you like eggnog? No, too close to tasting like yucky eggs.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Wow, too hard to narrow down to one...so it would probably have to do with Barbies.
7. Hardest person to buy for? My dad, he's got everything, seen everything and read everything.
8. Easiest person to buy for? Gavin, definitely! I have more fun buying for him than anyone else!
9. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes- got it 50% off after Xmas last year
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Tough call...such a waste of paper, and money (stamps). So this year I might just stick to email
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? My grandmother gave me a very typical holiday sweater...three sizes too big to boot. Already "thrilled" about the sweater, just added insult to injury to know she saw me as huge. Sadly, if I still had it, it'd fit today! (there's a reason I joined Weight Watchers this afternoon)
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Is there any other, Christmas Vacation! Every year, we play that right after opening Xmas gifts. It's a family tradition!
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually, July. No kidding. I start to look for stuff early. THIS YEAR- haven't even started! Our family will do names out of a hat- we're all penny pinching!
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes, and I usually like them.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My mom's recipe- sweet potato souflee. Always a crowd pleaser, can't go wrong
16. Lights on the tree? Depends on which tree. Gavin has red lights on his. Our white tree has white lights (but I'll probably add blue) and our real tree is multi-colored.
17. Favorite Christmas song? Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Santa Baby (Eartha Kitt only please).
18. Travel at Christmas or stay at home? Stay at home!
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Yes, but I choose not to.
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel on one, star on another, Santa on the last.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Everything on Christmas morning
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Gavin's school is closed for a week so Jeff and I have to scramble to come up with time off.
23. What theme or color are you using? all kinds
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? traditional
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? a bike, any kind of gift card (I'm still into them), a set of wooden spoons and this economy to start turning around!
So Thanksgiving was fun!

Ok, the drive was rough. It took us about 8 hours to get to Daytona. We did figure out an alternate route around Atlanta that dumps us south of McDonough. Actually, we were on target to get there in a reasonable time, but we hit a major accident about 15 miles north of our exit. We sat for 1.5 hours waiting for the emergency vehicles to do their thing. Unfortunately, it was a fatal accident. Jeff and I said a little prayer as we drove past the crash site. We were fortunate to make it to my parent's house safely.

The weather was beautiful- it was sunny and in the 70s all weekend long. We did a pretty traditional Thanksgiving meal outside.

We took Gavin on his first boat ride- what a blast! He had a great time! I think he's a little thrill seeker (he gets that from daddy). We took dad's boat to Boondocks- a little hole in the wall restaurant. Very good food!

We came back Saturday so we'd have Sunday at the house pulling out decorations and such. Before we came home, we were able to have lunch with Nonnie. She looks great! I think Florida is good for her.

Tonight I'm supposed to have coffee with my Big Sister from college. I hope she can make it, I'd love to see her. It's been way too long.
